How many Marriott Points Do You Need for a Free Night?

Marriott uses an award chart system. This means that each hotel has fixed prices when purchasing a room using Marriott Bonvoy points. There are three different prices for each category, based on room demand of the hotel (off peak, standard or peak). In addition, each tier indicates the level of luxury of a property.

How to Spend 100,000 Marriott Points

Here are a few ideas for making the most of your 100k bonus:

16 nights at the AC Queretaro Antea

The AC Queretaro Antea is a small, boutique hotel located outside the city of Monterrey, Mexico. About 150 miles from McAllen, Texas, Monterrey is the third largest city in Mexico and is home to many unique attractions, such as cathedrals and the famous Macroplaza.

With 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, you will earn yourself 16 nights here as it is a Category 1. At standard pricing, you will earn 13 nights on points. However, you will earn an additional 3 free nights as Marriott gives you the 5th night free when you stay for 4 consecutive nights on points. So your 16-night vacation in Monterrey would look like this.

  • Nights #1-4: 30,000 points
  • Night #5: Free
  • Nights #6-9: 30,000 points
  • Night #10: Free
  • Nights #11-14: 30,000 points
  • Night #15: Free
  • Night #16: 7,500 points

And after all of this, you will still have 2,500 points left over.

5 nights at the Renaissance ClubSport Aliso Viejo Laguna Beach Hotel

If a California vacation is appealing, the Renaissance ClubSport Aliso Viejo Laguna Beach Hotel could be the perfect place for you. Located just a short drive from the coast, Disneyland, Angel Stadium and outstanding hiking, this quaint hotel will serve you well.

At standard pricing, you will be able to afford 4 nights at this Category 4 property. However, you will receive the 5th night free if you book all 4 nights consecutively on 1 reservation.

2 nights at the Le Meridien New York, Central Park

If you dream of visiting the Empire State, there is no better place to rest your head than the Le Meridien near Central Park. You will be within walking distance from popular neighborhoods, such as the Diamond District, the Upper East Side, Garment District and more.

And while you are running around in search for the best slice of pizza, you can look forward to an outstanding hotel experience afterward. With a full gym, on-site restaurant and a rooftop bar with breathtaking views of Manhattan, you will be living luxuriously during your adventures.

The property is a Category 6, which will run you 50,000 points per night at standard pricing. However, with room rates over $400/night, your points will save you hundreds while you visit New York.

1 Night at the Hotel de Berri, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris

If a luxurious trip to Paris is appealing to you, the Hotel de Berri in Paris is an excellent option. This property is known for its contemporary art, exquisite interior design and close proximity to several museums and other attractions.

This property is a Category 8 — the highest tier within Marriott Bonvoy. With a luxury property comes a luxurious price tag at 100,000 Marriott points. This rate is considered “peak” price, so try and look for dates that are “off peak” or standard to save yourself some points. With rates starting at over $500/night, you can spend your points on your room and save your dollars (or euros) for the outstanding museums and restaurants across the city.

Bonus Eligibility

So are you eligible to receive one of these Marriott Bonvoy cards? There are several factors to keep in mind before you decide to apply.

First, are you over the dreaded Chase 5/24 rule? If you have been approved for more than 5 credit cards (from any issuer) in the past 24 months, you will not be approved for any Chase cards. In this case, you will want to consider either the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card instead.

Second, the sign-up bonus for either of these cards will not be available to you if you meet 1 of these criteria:

  • You are a current cardmember, or were a previous cardmember within the last 30 days, of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express).
  • You are a current or previous cardmember of either the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card), and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months.
  • You applied and were approved for the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card) within the last 90 days.

When Marriott announced its acquisition of Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) in 2015, it caused a ton of confusion and issues when it integrated the two loyalty programs into Marriott Bonvoy. If you have had credit cards from either Marriott/Ritz-Carlton in the past, it could potentially make you ineligible to receive a sign-up bonus for a specific card. So before you apply, it is best to call Chase before applying to ensure you are eligible to have the card and receive the bonus.

Which Marriott Card Should You Choose?

These cards are very similar in their long list of benefits. Their largest differences reside in their annual fee, sign-up bonus and annual free night. If you are able to earn the sign-up bonus of the Boundless card and use the free night certificate, it may be best to grab the Boundless. If these aren’t applicable, you may want to select the Bold card.
